Good news, Bloc Party fans. The band has announced it will release a new album in 2012, and front man Kele Okereke will indeed be back on the mic.
In an interview Tuesday with Britain’s Radio 1, Okereke revealed that he and his bandmates (Russell Lissack, Gordon Moakes and Matt Tong), who took a time-out three years ago to pursue solo projects, have already recorded several songs.
Kele describes the new tunes as “lean and very tough.”
“It’s nice to feel that the music we’re making is the sound of all us in a room together again because we haven’t done that for a while,” he explains. “We’ve all felt that whatever energy was there in the beginning was definitely still there. That’s the reason for making the record again.”
This will be Bloc Party’s fourth studio album, following 2008′s “Intimacy.” Last year, rumors circulated that the band planned to hold auditions to replace Okereke, although they were quick to deny that was the case.
“We can do whatever we want now and people will come to it on its own terms,” adds Okereke. “I’m excited about the idea of making rock music again. It feels like the record that we’re making doesn’t sound like anyone else on the planet. That’s a really good feeling.”
