Allow me to direct your attention to the picture above. See, that is why you don’t let your husband futz with a fresh tube of lipstick.
I sure do love that man, but sometimes he’s all elbows and thumbs. Seriously Nike Air Max 95 Mens, watching him try to open something delicate is like watching a bear touch type (i.e., it’s not pretty).
The moral of this story? — if you’re super-stoked about a new lippie Gucci Hobo Bag, especially one as smooth and moisturizing as this new one from Jouer, keep it safely tucked away in your purse.
That poor thing up there is Dusty ($22), one of six new Jouer products for fall (coming to counters and online this September). The focus is firmly on lips and eyes in this release, and Dusty, a full-coverage nude lippie, joins three Liquid Shimmer Eyeliners ($22 each; available in Fox, Sable and Mink), a Travel Eyelash Curler ($14), and two Everyday Classic Wear Mascaras ($20 each; available in Noir and Brun).
Over the past year I’ve gotten to like Jouer, a small, high-end indie brand sold at Henri Bendel stores and online, both in terms of the overall performance of their products and how the brand handles color. I like to call it upscale accessible and runway chic, like a city girl’s version of Becca.
After getting to know the new Dusty lipstick, the Liquid Shimmer Eyeliner in Mink and the Everyday Classic Wear Mascara in Noir, here are some impressions they made…
Liquid Shimmer Eyeliner in Mink ($22) — Jouer describes this shimmery liquid liner as a rich taupe, but on me I think it looks more like a golden bronze. One swipe of this water-based, paraben-free wonder along my lash line with its skinny brush applicator yields oodles of lush pigment and shimmer. It’s fairly long-wearing, too, but isn’t waterproof, so I’m easily able to remove it with my regular face cleanser. Kinda pricey, but I like how it lights up my eyes. Everyday Classic Wear Mascara in Noir ($20) — I prefer my lashes with a double shot of drag queen that Noir doesn’t quite deliver. Still, it’s a moderately volumizing mascara that might be ideal for gals who want a natural lash look. It adds noticeable definition and seems to hold a curl better than most. Plus, it’s smudge-proof and refuses to flake. Of course, then there’s the price…which in Noir’s case seems a bit high to me for what you get. MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B-
Hydrating Lipstick in Dusty ($22) — Jouer baked Brazilian cupuacu butter, a highly moisturizing extract from Brazilian cupuacu trees, into this hydrating lippie. Dusty is a true nude lipstick that provides medium coverage, and it feels creamy and smooth on my lips. In terms of wear time, it lasts for about four hours on me. If you’ve been looking for a nude lipstick that isn’t too pink or pale, you might want to give Dusty a closer look. MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+

So what do ya think? Do you see anything you like? I’m thinking Jouer has a knack for the no-makeup look.
Mystery Melon: The Big Reveal!
Thanks to the eagle-eyed fruit detectives among us, I think I now know the identity of the mysterious melon I freed from the farmers’ market last week.
Are you ready?
It’s a Korean melon!
I think. Sometimes it’s referred to as a chamoe melon. I had it last night for dessert, and it wasn’t half bad — kinda like a crisper, less sweet cantaloupe.
I chilled it in the fridge for a few hours to get it nice and cold, and then sliced it open and removed the seeds with a spoon.
I can’t really see it replacing watermelon as one of my summertime faves, but I’d grab one again if it crossed my path.
How adventurous are you when it comes to food? Do you like to try new things, or do you tend to stick to the things you know you like?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
